Shooting Reported At Fort Lauderdale Airport

Police are working to secure a Florida airport that became the scene of a shooting spree. Five people are dead and more than a dozen others were injured in the shooting at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport north of Miami. The suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Esteban Santiago. He was unharmed in the shooting.  He's been captured and is being interviewed by FBI agents.

There are reports that Santiago flew into the airport earlier in the day and grabbed his gun from checked baggage. Once he ran out of ammo, he laid down until police took him into custody.

All air traffic has been suspended at the airport as police and federal officials continue their investigation.

President Obama has been briefed on the situation and President-elect Donald Trump said he is monitoring the mass shooting.  In a tweet, Trump called it a terrible situation and said he has spoken with Florida Governor Rick Scott.  He also offered thoughts and prayers for victims and their families.

Former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer was traveling from the airport when the shooting occurred. He tweeted that everything "seems calm now".
