Gwar lead singer and founder Dave Brockie, better-known as Oderus Urungus, was found dead yesterday (Sunday) at his home in Richmond, Virginia.
According to TMZ, Brockie's roommate found his lifeless body sitting upright in a chair. Police do not suspect suicide or any type of foul play. A medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of his death. The band's management is expected to release a statement later today.
The Canadian-born Brockie co-founded the band in 1982 and was the only member who was with them for their entire career. He began as their guitarist and then moved to bass before becoming their singer. His stage costume featured a disfigured face topped with a pair of horns, spikes, twin skulls with sword blades projecting from them on each shoulder and a huge codpiece. Brockie also fronted a side band, The Dave Brockie Experience, that released three albums and a pair of DVDs.
