Eddie Vedder covered a song he'd never dared to do before Friday in Portugal -- John Lennon's "Imagine."
Calling it "the most powerful song ever written," which is why he'd never played it before, Vedder went into "Imagine" after voicing his anti-war sentiments to the audience. He's been speaking out on the subject since the recent reopening of armed hostilities between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East and previously quoted lyrics from "Imagine" in an open letter to fans on Pearl Jam's web page.
"It seems like maybe there is a reason to play it," he said, before launching into his solo acoustic version of the song.
