"Weird Al" covers the Ramones' "Beat On The Brat"

In the mid 70s when the punk movement was getting bigger Barry Hansen aka Dr. Demento was a big fan.  In 1974 Dr. D launched his syndicated novelty show in Los Angeles.  Around the same time Jeffery, John, Douglas, and Thomas were on the other side of the country forming the Ramones. Dr. Demento would sometimes include punk records in between some of the novelty records he was spinning.

Just released... a double disk "Dr. Demento Covered in Punk" is setup like a Doctor Demento show featuring punk covers of novelty songs as well as novelty artists covering punk songs.

Check out one of my favorites... "Weird Al" Yankovic covering the Ramones "Beat On The Brat"

Here is Osaka Popstar covering "Fish Heads"
