Aerosmith's Joe Perry Cancels Solo Tour Following Health Scare

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has canceled his fall tour so he can fully recover from a recent bout with a chronic respiratory issue.

Perry's publicist said in a statement Tuesday afternoon that the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer needs to take the rest of the year off.

Perry had a 10-date solo tour with his Aerosmith band mate Brad Whitford and Extreme's Gary Cherone scheduled to run from November 30 to December 16. The tour was meant to be in support of Perry's 2018 solo album, Sweetzerland Manifesto.

After a surprise collaboration with Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden two weekends ago, Perry fell short of breath and reportedly collapse backstage. Paramedics at the arena had to give Perry oxygen and clear his airway with a tracheal tube before rushing him to a Manhattan hospital.

A few days after the incident, Perry thanked fans for their concern and reported via Twitter that he was "doing well." Last Thursday, he was released from the hospital

Perry has apologized to fans who hoped to attend the solo shows. He apparently hopes to try again next year.

Aerosmith will celebrate its 50th anniversary next spring in its Deuces Are Wild residency in Las Vegas at the Park Theater at Park MGM.
