The 1975 Preview New 'Notes On A Conditional Form' Song At Reading Festival

Reading Festival 2019 - Day One

The 1975 are excited about their upcoming album Notes on a Conditional Form, and it shows. On Friday night (August 23), the band opened their Reading Festival set with the album's raucous, in-your-face lead single "People," but that wasn't the only taste of new music festival goers got to experience live. Midway through their set, the stage design turned yellow — the album's color scheme. Frontman Matty Healy simply said "Notes on a Conditional Form, cheers" before the band broke into a groove-laden instrumental track that's assumed to be featured on the record.

The band is also repurposing old tour and album t-shirts into NOACF merch during both Reading and Leeds, and are encouraging fans to bring their own old shirts for free screen pressings of the yellow logo.

Notes on a Conditional Form is slated for a February 21, 2020 release. Listen to the song snippet below.

Healy recently explained that "People" was written in response to Alabama's abortion ban.

"I wrote ‘People’ on my tour bus in Texas on the day the abortion bill was circulating in Alabama," he explained. "After playing our show there in Alabama, we were advised to leave quickly due to Alabama being an Open Carry state [ie, one where citizens may carry guns in public]. So we did, and we soon stopped in a truck stop in Texas. I bought some Cheetos that were next to a collection of knives for incels and various bumper stickers encouraging women to give oral sex to truck drivers as some kind of trade for the privilege of being in the truck and in the presence of such a great man. I was pretty pissed off. I am pretty pissed off."
