Dave Grohl Covers 'Little Drummer Boy' With The Bird And The Bee

"Little Drummer Boy" is a holiday classic, and if you haven't listened to the song yet this season, maybe you were just holding out for this cover from Dave Grohl and indie pop duo The Bird And The Bee that you didn't even know you needed! Call it an early Christmas present from Santa himself.

Grohl and The Bird And The Bee recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and performed a festive, rocking version of "Little Drummer Boy" — with Dave Grohl as the actual "Drummer Boy." You've never heard the song like this before.

As Dave enjoys the holidays, the year ahead is about to ramp up for him and Foo Fighters as the band is preparing to drop their tenth studio album Medicine At Midnight. The project, which is set to be released on February 5, 2021, follows 2017's Concrete and Gold and features their newly-released song "Shame Shame."

Medicine At Midnight was intended to be released earlier to celebrate the band's 25th anniversary, and in a recent interview on Q104.3, Grohl explained the decision to postpone the album. He said, "We were totally done. Mixed, mastered, ready to go. Artwork was done, t-shirts were being made, equipment was on the trucks — we were good to go. And then everything just kind of shut down."

He added, "Then it was months and months of trying to decide when we would release it. 'OK, do we just put it out now?’ ‘No, let’s wait. Maybe we’ll see what happens.’ A month later, ‘Do we put it out now?’ ‘No, let’s wait.'”

As they waited, they realized they really wanted their fans to have their new music, whether they were able to tour or not. Grohl explained, "We write these songs so people can enjoy them and sing along, whether it’s in their kitchen by themselves with a bottle of Crown Royal or in a stadium bouncing around, singing the choruses’. So, I was, like, right now, more than ever, people need something to lift their spirits, something to give them some feeling of relief or escape. I was, like: ‘We’ve gotta put it out. Let’s put it out right now.’"
