Wrestling legend and longtime voice of the WWE "Mean" Gene Okerlund has passed away at age 76.
It's unclear when Okerlund died or the cause of death. The ring announcer, who began his career in 1970 with the American Wrestling Association, had battled several health problems over the years and had undergone two kidney transplants.
The WWE issued a statement saying it is "saddened to learn that WWE Hall of Famer Gene Okerlund, the most recognizable interviewer in sports-entertainment history, has passed away at age 76." And Hulk Hogan, who had many memorable interviews with Okerlund, offered his condolences, saying, "Mean Gene I love you my brother."
He's survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Jeanne, and his two kids. (TMZ)
