Thanks to all the Edgeheads who volunteered at the Arkansas Foodbank on Wednesday, May 22nd for Metallica's 2nd Annual All Within My Hands Day of Service.
Metallica met our Arkansas Foodbank representatives when they did their show here this past January 20th. They made a very generous donation to the Arkansas Foodbank and decided this year they would host one of their Day of Service locations here in Central Arkansas. 100.3 The Edge was honored to partner with Metallica and the Arkansas Foodbank to make this day a huge success.
A large annual event here is Little Rock had just took place, The Greek Food Festival, where admission was 3 or more cans of food which was all donated to the Foodbank. This netted in many pallets of donations that needed to be sorted and re-boxed. 6 pallets at a time were placed on the sorting floor where Edgeheads and Metallica fans attacked each in order to sort out veggies, soups, pastas, meats, and other canned foods. There were two shifts with approximately 40-50 volunteers each shift.
Edge personalities Corey and Patrick of the Edge's morning show and myself, Matt Cruz on Mid-Days and Afternoons were on hand to work side-by-side with our family of Edgeheads.
At the end of the day the totals were impressive! 21,709 lbs of canned food had been sorted then the afternoon shift upon completion of all the pallets of food was tasked to re-bag onions. They processed 1,940 lbs of onions that afternoon!
Metallica even sent a Deluxe Box Set of ... And Justice For All for all the volunteers to register to win. Congrats to Ryan Stewart of Ward who won that killer box set! Each volunteer received some Edge swag and a limited edition t-shirt from Metallica to commemorate the day.
Thanks to all the Edgeheads who volunteered and thanks to Metallica for giving us this opportunity to do something good with the Arkansas Foodbank!
Let's look ahead to year #3 in 2020!
